Opinions wanted...

My friend Cynthia is toying between a Cricut & a Silhouette (or Cameo or other electronic, hook up to the computer cutter.)  On the one hand, the Cricut has shapes.  On the other, you have to buy cartridges...as opposed to just using free fonts you can download & cut on a different machine.

I have a Cricut Expression, and all I can really do it hit some buttons and, most times, cut the image I was hoping for.  I have had a Wishblade since they released them, and I love it...but I can't do the shapes and stuff on it.  I'm just not tech savvy enough to figure it out.  Most of you out there own one or the other, and some of you may have both or be looking to change.  you're Cynthia's best resource!

So...which do you own?  Which do you prefer?  Please post your opinions and WHY (or why NOT) below to help Cynthia figure out which is the better choice for her.

Thanks in advance!

  1. I only have the Cricut and I love it!! BUT like you said you are limited to the designs that are pre-created on the cartridges that you have to purchase. I would like to get something that I could use to make my own titles, but I don't have the money or the room for both. Hope this helps a little!!

  2. I have the Cricut too but have heard some good things about the Silhouette. I've had two Cricuts, the smaller original one and just upgraded about a year and a half ago to the bigger cricut. I'm just now discovering the Cricut Craft room and what I can do with that. I've already committed myself to the Cricut for now and the Silouette is pricey. I do love the idea of being able to cut your own fonts. If you go with the Cricut, word of advice you can get cheaper cartridges not buying them through the craft room. They are full price there. Got to scrapbookpal.com or Cartridges and more. Hope this helps a little.

  3. I have the cricut but I got it when you could still get software to use it with the computer. There are so many free files you can download on the internet. I like being able to use the fonts on my computer instead of buying all of the cartridges.

    1. You can cut ANY jpeg by tracing it and pulling the pieces apart to print whatever color you would like, and SVG's you can get free in so many places.
